Public spaces have the power to bring people together.
They are places where friends and neighbours meet, where children create their own adventures, and where people can simply pause and slow down.
This idea became the foundation of the relaxation zone by the pond in Ženklava. Our goal was not to create another attraction, but a place that would become a natural part of the landscape and serve the community for many years to come.
From the very beginning, we knew we wanted to work with materials that truly belonged here. That is why we chose locally sourced limestone from Kotouč Hill and durable black locust wood – one of the longest-lasting native hardwoods, valued for the way it ages naturally without requiring chemical treatment.
The design includes a waterside pier, a fire pit for gathering, seating steps, play elements for children, a slide inspired by the cardboard boxes from the film Madagascar, and even a small duck house. Each of these elements has its place, yet none of them is the main attraction.
The real attraction is the place itself.
We believe that a high-quality public space does not need to be filled with attractions to draw people in. Sometimes all it takes is a place that sparks imagination, respects its surroundings, and creates opportunities for people to meet naturally.
Children do not need instructions on how to play. Water, stone, wood, and their own imagination are enough. Adults, in turn, appreciate a place where they can sit down, watch life unfold, or spend a summer evening around the fire.
Our greatest satisfaction did not come from completing the construction, but from the opening day. The moment the space filled with people and children instinctively made it their own, we knew the design had fulfilled its purpose.
Because architecture is not only about what we create. It is about the life that begins to unfold within it.
